Looking forward.... does anyone have any videos and training progressions for the Yama*****a vault?  I note it's being discussed at our congress in Region 7 and I note it was on the aggregate JO program routines (second draft.)

Kevin
I have not seen a video lately on the vault and need to look into that. I do know of some drills to develop the block and I will post those tonight when I get home.

Hi Kevin
Sorry for the delay, I did not find any videos yet but, depending on the age of the gymnast, the shoulder blocking action is what is needed. In general, you can start with stacked mats that are the height of the horse. The gymnast first learns to block off the vault table going from handstand to handstand into the stacked mats. What usaully happens is that the gymnast arches over and falls off the horse. Once the gymnast can maintain a tight body line then stack the mats above the horse, like an 8 inch saftey cushion over the vault table height. The gymnast does the same drill. He will need to develop this block until he can rise upward onto a couple of 8 inch mats and if younger probably just an 8 inch mat. The next step is to rise off the vault table, reach up toward the toes pike and land in an L seat on the stacked mats. Next, the gymnast develops the opening, the same block, reach for the toes and open so, pike open to landing flat on his back. This takes some time but makes the learnign of the skill much better. Well kind of short so if you have questions let me know.
